Secrets to Selling a Dog-Friendly Home

If you’re trying to sell your home, you must’ve read plenty of articles on home redecorating and what to do to make your home stand out in the market. You already have an idea about your perfect buyer — if it’s a young couple, a big or small family, or a single person, and you’ve got some selling techniques ready. However, have you thought about how you would sell your home to a dog owner? If you have or haven’t got a pup, here is what you should pay attention to.

Is your area pet-friendly?

Sure, there are some shops and cafes, but what are the local pet laws? Are there perhaps some species that are undesirable (shock horror), or a law limiting the number of pets per home? Get your answers ready to show you have thought of everything.

Friendly Flooring

Are your wooden floors made of bamboo? That’s excellent news! Not only is it an embodiment of a green home (bamboos grows rapidly), but it is also the best possible flooring option for someone with a doggo. It is more resistant to stains and scratches compared to some other materials. Not to mention it is naturally antimicrobial.

If you don’t’ have bamboo, but you’ve got some stone tiles or cork floors, these too will be seen as an advantage.

Show Off a Bit

In case you already have a four-legged best friend by your side, it’s only natural that you will show them off. In addition, you can expect prospective buyers to look for signs of how much you care for the furry family member. They will pay great attention to your pet’s bed, toys, and even check out the leashes and any dog clothes you may have hanging in the hall. Therefore, feel free to boast how much you love your pet, but try to be subtle at the same time.

Limits and Limitations

A dog lover will enjoy watching their pet run freely around the garden. Still, some pets need certain obstacles, i.e. a proper fence around the house so as not to enjoy the freedom too much and get themselves in danger. Check any rules on the fences if you haven’t got one already.

Moreover, check for the list of any poisonous garden and house plants. You may be unpleasantly surprised.

The house interior may be full of obstacles of another type. Would you say it is spacious enough, even for big dog species? As for the small ones, how big are your stairs? The older a dog gets, the more difficult it is for them to climb. The carpet runner is a must in each case.

Since 89% of millennials who have a pet purchased a new home last year, you can expect there will be quite a lot of pet lovers ringing your bell and asking about the details we’ve mentioned. In the meantime, bear these in mind, and make some improvements. Your dog has a right to enjoy them, too!
