Are you prepared to build your new house? If yes, I am here to tell you, revise your plan. Not all but for building the roof of your house. Being a Civil Engineer, I will let you know why should you need to rethink about the roofing materials you planned to use in your new house?

The roof is that part of the house, that saves you from the rain and scorching sun. It maintains the internal temperature of the house(both in summer and in winter), provides safety to all family members, sometimes controls the lighting of the house and so on. So, before choosing the roof material of your new house you need to think twice.

Today, I am going to share four major advantages of metal roofing compared to traditional asphalt roofing. Metal roofing can be made of different types of metal such as zinc, tin, copper, aluminum or galvanized steel. Each type has some different properties. I am going to share common facilities you are going to get if you install metal roofs.

  • Shelf Life is Longer

The shelf-life of the metal roof is longer and metal roofs can last up to 70 years. Traditional Asphalt roofs can give service up to 20 years maximum. So, for those who are seeking long term roofing solutions, metal roofing can be a good option.

  • Requires Less Maintenance

Metals are often tough and less reactive to nature. As a result, metal roofs need less maintenance than other roofing solutions. For example, common Asphalt roofing may require maintenance every 2-4 years, but steel roofs can serve up to 15 years without any maintenance.

  • Fire Resistant

Metals are often fire resistant as the boiling temperature of metals is very high. As a result, during the fire, metal roofs prevent further spreading of fire. It can also save your house during lightning as it will not spark and cause a fire if lightning happens.

  • Eco-friendly

Compared to other roofing materials or solutions metal roof are more eco-friendly. Metal roofs reflect the suns ray that keeps your house cooler in summer and warmer in winter. As the temperature is vice –versa of the atmospheric conditions it saves electricity up to 5% to 25%. Moreover, up to 95% of the raw materials of metal roofs are re-usable.

  • Scrap Value

The re-sale value of metal roofs could be another reason to make it a choice. When you want to re-sale after using for long years, you will get a handsome amount of money, if it is a metal roof. For other roofing options, you may need to put some money more to dump them on suitable places.

Metal roofs has some certain advantages over its competitors. The main reason for not choosing the metal roof is being its high initial cost. But considering the life span, re-sale value after usage, regular maintenance cost, environment friendliness, fire resistance and other facilities, the metal roof is the cheapest of all. That’s why I said before choosing the appropriate roofing solutions to think twice.
