To fight the colder climate, once the idea of setting up a tankless water heating system came upon your mind and you completed setting it up. But setting up doesn’t let you sit and relax always.

Maintenance is one of the key parts of a tankless water heating system needs either it is gas-based or electricity-based. Often users of tankless water heating systems face many problems and the most common one is a reduction in efficiency and flow rate.

Why the descaling of Tankless Water Heating System Needed?

The chemical formula for pure water is H20. But the water we use is not pure, it is drinkable or usable, usually called as potable water. Potable water contains minerals that are good for health if they are kept within certain limits.

When you heat the water, it actually quickens some chemical processes. As a result, sedimentation of these chemicals starts to accumulate along the travel line of water. The most common accumulated substances in the case of a tankless water heater are Calcium oxide. To remove these accumulated Calcium Oxides, descaling your  tankless water heater is needed.

Results of Such Scale

  • As the accumulation grows, it narrows down the flowing passage. So you may notice your tankless water heating system flow rate decreased.
  • The efficiency of the water heating system gets disturbed and the efficiency of heating reduced.
  • The sedimentation consumes energy, which causes more bills of gases or electricity.

How to descale Tankless Water Heating System?

Descaling a tankless water heating system is important if you want to increase the efficiency as well as to save extra energy costs. But how to descale? The best practice is to consult with professional plumbing services. Although taking professional services may incur some cost, but in the long run, it will be a more effective and prominent way of saving your precious plumbing and heating lines.

But, if you want to do it by yourself you can give a try(Risk is yours!!) following the procedures mentioned below:

Required Materials:

  1. Two hose pipes for draining water
  2. White Vinegar
  3. Descaling pump
  4. Buckets

Processes

  • Disconnect the energy source and turn off the water heater. Allow some time, to cool it.
  • Close all valves (incoming and outgoing for both cold and heated water).
  • Connect one end of a hosepipe to the line of cold water. The other end should connect to a descaling pump.
  • Immerge the submersible descaling pump into a bucket filled with white vinegar. Before moving on, check all hose connections are properly tightened. Open the closed valves to allow the vinegar to pass through.
  • Now, connect the submersible pump with the power source. Turn it on and keep it running for the next 45 minutes. Collect all the drained vinegar in a bucket and throw away.
  • After draining out all vinegar, use cold fresh water to rinse the pipeline.
  • Reconnect your tankless water heating system.
  • Congratulations, you are all done.

Precautions

  • Please take care, opening and closing the valves properly. Otherwise, your house may become dirty.
  • Collect all the vinegar and throw away. Do not use it again.
  • Check your pump has any turn on/off switch or not. In some cases, only plugging into power source starts the pump. So, take care!!
